SSC JHT Eligibility Criteria 2026
1. Nationality / Citizenship
A candidate must be either a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal, a subject of Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, East African countries, etc., with the intention of permanently settling in India.
2. Educational Qualification (as on 01.08.2026)
For Junior Hindi Translator/Junior Translation Officer/Junior Translator (Post Codes A-C):
- Master’s degree in Hindi/English with the other language as a compulsory/elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level.
- OR Master’s degree in any subject other than Hindi/English with Hindi/English medium and the other language as a compulsory/elective subject at degree level.
- AND Recognized Diploma/Certificate course in translation from Hindi to English & vice versa OR 2 years' experience of translation work from Hindi to English and vice versa in Central or State Government Office.
For Senior Hindi Translator/Senior Translator/Senior Translation Officer (Post Code D):
- Same Master's degree criteria as above.
- AND Recognized Diploma/Certificate course in translation OR 3 years' experience of translation work from Hindi to English and vice versa.
3. Age Limit
The age limit for SSC JHT 2026 is 18 to 30 years as on 01-08-2026. Candidates born not before 02-08-1996 and not later than 01-08-2008 are eligible to apply. Age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories as per Government norms.

SSC JHT Exam Pattern 2026
The examination consists of two papers. Paper 1 features a sectional timer, meaning candidates must complete each section within the allotted time.

Detailed SSC JHT Syllabus
1. Paper-I (Computer Based Examination)
The questions will be designed to test the candidates' understanding of the languages and literature, correct use of words, phrases and idioms, and the ability to write the languages correctly, precisely, and effectively. The questions will be of degree level.
- General Hindi: हिंदी व्याकरण, शब्दावली, शब्द रचना, समानार्थी/विलोम शब्द, मुहावरे और लोकोक्तियाँ, वाक्यांशों का अर्थ।
- General English: English Grammar, Vocabulary (Synonyms, Antonyms, One-word substitution), Sentence Structure, Error Detection, Fill in the Blanks, Phrases and Idiomatic Expressions, Comprehension Passage.
2. Paper-II (Translation and Essay)
This paper will contain two passages for translation - one passage for translation from Hindi to English and one passage for translation from English to Hindi, and an Essay each in Hindi and English, to test the candidates' translation skills and their ability to write as well as comprehend the two languages correctly, precisely, and effectively.
SSC JHT Selection Process 2026
- Stage 1: Paper 1 (Computer Based Exam) - Objective type multiple-choice questions.
- Stage 2: Paper 2 (Descriptive Exam) - Translation and Essay writing. Only candidates shortlisted based on Paper 1 will appear for Paper 2.
- Stage 3: Document Verification (DV) - Conducted by User Departments after the final result.
Minimum Qualifying Marks
- UR: 30%
- OBC / EWS: 25%
- All Other Categories: 20%
Final Merit: For final selection, the weightage will be 50% of the scores in Paper-I and 100% of marks in Paper-II.

Aadhaar Authentication & Important Guidelines
Candidates can voluntarily use Aadhaar Based Biometric Authentication during OTR. Non-Aadhaar candidates must upload valid Name, DOB, Address, and Gender proof documents and must report to the examination centre 2 hours before the scheduled time.
Debarment Warning: Any candidate found acting as a scribe in the same examination or engaging a scribe who is debarred will face debarment from SSC exams for 3 to 7 years.
