The State Bank of India (SBI) conducts the SBI Clerk (Junior Associate) examination annually to recruit candidates for clerical cadre posts in its various branches across the country. SBI Clerk Eligibility Criteria 2026 (Expected)

Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility conditions to apply for the SBI Clerk exam:

1. Nationality / Citizenship

The candidate must be either a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal, a subject of Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India.

2. Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess a Graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification recognized by the Central Government. Final year/semester students can also apply provisionally, but they must produce proof of having passed the graduation examination on or before the date mentioned in the official notification.

3. Age Limit

The expected age limit for SBI Clerk is 20 to 28 years as on the crucial date mentioned in the notification. Age relaxation is provided to reserved categories (OBC: 3 years, SC/ST: 5 years, PwBD: 10-15 years) as per Government of India norms.

SBI Clerk Selection Process 2026

The selection of candidates for the Clerk post is done through the following stages:

  • Phase-I: Prelims (Computer Based Exam) - Objective type MCQs. Qualifying in nature.
  • Phase-II: Mains (Computer Based Exam) - Includes Objective MCQs. Merit is prepared based on Mains performance.
  • Phase-III: Local Language Proficiency Test - Provisionally selected candidates who have not studied the specified opted local language in 10th/12th standard must appear for this test before joining.

The final merit list is prepared based on the scores of the Mains exam, subject to qualifying the local language test.
