SBI PO Exam Overview 2026-27

The State Bank of India (SBI) conducts the SBI PO (Probationary Officer) examination to recruit Probationary Officers for its various branches across the country. The SBI PO 2026-27 recruitment notification has been released for a total of 1500 vacancies. It is one of the most prestigious and sought-after banking exams in India.

SBI PO Eligibility Criteria 2026

Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility conditions to apply for the SBI PO exam:

1. Nationality / Citizenship

The candidate must be either a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal, a subject of Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India.

2. Educational Qualification (as on 30.09.2026)

Candidates must possess a Graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification recognized by the Central Government. Those in the Final Year/Semester of their Graduation may also apply provisionally, but they must produce proof of having passed the graduation examination on or before 30.09.2026.

3. Age Limit (as on 01.04.2026)

The age limit for SBI PO is 21 to 30 years. Candidates must have been born not later than 01.04.2005 and not earlier than 02.04.1996.

Note: Age relaxation is provided to reserved categories (OBC: 3 years, SC/ST: 5 years, PwBD: 10-15 years) as per Government of India norms.

SBI PO Pay Scale & Salary Structure

Selected candidates will receive a starting basic pay of Rs. 48,480/- (with 4 advance increments) in the scale of 48480-2000/7-62480-2340/2-67160-2680/7-85920 applicable to Junior Management Grade Scale-I. The official will be eligible for DA, HRA, CCA, PF, Contributory Pension Fund (NPS), LFC, Medical Facility, Lease rental facility, etc.

The SBI PO Prelims is an online examination consisting of Objective Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). It is qualifying in nature.

SBI PO Selection Process 2026

The selection of candidates for the PO post is done through a three-phase process:

  • Phase-I: Prelims (Computer Based Exam) - Objective type MCQs. Qualifying in nature. Category-wise merit list will be drawn to shortlist 10 times the number of vacancies for Mains.
  • Phase-II: Mains (Computer Based Exam) - Includes Objective Tests (200 marks) and a Descriptive Test (30 marks). Merit is prepared based on Mains performance.
  • Phase-III: Psychometric Test, Group Exercise & Interview - Shortlisted candidates appear for Psychometric Test (for personality profiling), Group Exercises (20 marks), and Personal Interview (30 marks).

The final merit list is prepared by aggregating converted marks (out of 100) of Phase-II (75 marks) and Phase-III (25 marks).
