NDA & NA (II) 2026 Exam Overview

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy (NDA & NA) Examination twice a year to recruit candidates for the Army, Navy, and Air Force wings of the NDA and for the Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC). The NDA (II) 2026 exam is scheduled for 13th September 2026.

NDA & NA Eligibility Criteria 2026

Candidates must satisfy nationality, age, marital status and educational requirements as stated in the official UPSC notification.

1. Nationality & Marital Status

A candidate must be an unmarried male/female and must be either a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries with the intention of permanently settling in India.

2. Age Limit

Only unmarried male/female candidates born not earlier than 02nd January 2008 and not later than 01st January 2011 are eligible.

3. Educational Qualifications

  • For Army Wing of NDA: 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
  • For Air Force and Naval Wings of NDA and for 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at INAC: 12th Class pass with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent.

Candidates who are appearing in the 12th Class under the 10+2 pattern or equivalent examination can also apply provisionally.

NDA Pay Scale & Salary Structure

Cadets receive a fixed stipend of Rs. 56,100/- per month during the entire duration of training in Service academies. Upon successful commissioning, the pay is fixed in the first cell of Level 10 (Rs. 56,100 - 1,77,500).

Additionally, officers receive Military Service Pay (MSP) of Rs. 15,500/- per month, along with Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance, and other field/technical allowances.

The written examination consists of two papers. Both papers consist of objective-type questions only.

Note: The question papers (Test Booklets) of Mathematics and Part “B” of GAT will be set bilingually in Hindi as well as English. There is a penalty (Negative Marking) of 1/3rd (0.33) marks for each wrong answer.

Detailed NDA & NA Syllabus

PAPER-I: MATHEMATICS (Code No. 01, Max Marks: 300)

  • Algebra: Sets, Venn diagrams, De Morgan laws, Complex numbers, Binary system, Arithmetic/Geometric/Harmonic progressions, Quadratic equations, Permutation & Combination, Binomial theorem, Logarithms.
  • Matrices & Determinants: Types of matrices, operations, determinants, adjoint and inverse, solution of linear equations.
  • Trigonometry: Angles, trigonometric ratios, identities, sum/difference formulae, inverse functions, height and distance.
  • Analytical Geometry (2D & 3D): Rectangular Cartesian Coordinate system, equation of a line/circle, parabola, ellipse, hyperbola, point in 3D space, equation of a plane and a line.
  • Differential Calculus: Real valued functions, limits, continuity, derivative, second order derivatives, maxima and minima.
  • Integral Calculus & Differential Equations: Integration by substitution/parts, definite integrals, areas of curves, order/degree of differential equations.
  • Vector Algebra: Vectors in 2D/3D, magnitude, scalar/dot product, vector/cross product.
  • Statistics & Probability: Classification of data, frequency distribution, mean/median/mode, variance, standard deviation, random experiment, sample space, Bayes' theorem, Binomial distribution.

PAPER-II: GENERAL ABILITY TEST (Code No. 02, Max Marks: 600)

Part ‘A’ — ENGLISH (Max Marks: 200)
Grammar and usage, vocabulary, comprehension, and cohesion in extended text to test proficiency in English.

Part ‘B’ — GENERAL KNOWLEDGE (Max Marks: 400)
This section covers Physics (~25%), Chemistry (~15%), General Science (~10%), History/Freedom Movement (~20%), Geography (~20%), and Current Events (~10%).

NDA & NA Selection Process

Selection is multi-stage: Written Exam → SSB Interview → Medical Examination. Final merit is based on the combined scores of the Written Exam (900 marks) and SSB Interview (900 marks).

  • Stage 1 (Day 1): Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception & Description Test (PP&DT). Candidates shortlisted based on performance.
  • Stage 2 (Days 2-4): Interview, Group Testing Officer (GTO) Tasks, Psychology Tests, and Conference.
  • Air Force Special: Candidates opting for the Flying branch must also qualify the Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS).
