UPSC CAPF AC Exam Overview

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) Assistant Commandant (AC) examination annually to recruit Group A officers (Assistant Commandants) in various paramilitary forces of India. CAPF AC Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility conditions to apply for the CAPF AC exam:

1. Nationality / Citizenship

The candidate must be a citizen of India.

2. Educational Qualification

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or Institution.

3. Age Limit & Gender

The age limit for CAPF AC is generally 20 to 25 years as on the 1st of August of the exam year. Both male and female candidates are eligible to apply.

Note: Age relaxation is provided to reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC) and certain departmental candidates as per Government norms.

CAPF AC Pay Scale & Salary Structure

Selected candidates will be appointed as Assistant Commandants in Group A. They are placed in Pay Level 10 of the 7th CPC. Along with the basic pay, officers receive Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance, and other paramilitary-specific allowances.

CAPF AC Selection Process

The selection of candidates for the Assistant Commandant post is done through the following stages:

  • Stage 1: Written Examination - Consists of Paper 1 (Objective) and Paper 2 (Descriptive).
  • Stage 2: Physical Standards and Physical Efficiency Test (PET) - Candidates who qualify the written exam must meet physical standards (height, chest, weight) and pass PET (race, long jump, shot put).
  • Stage 3: Interview/Personality Test - Candidates who clear PET are called for a Personal Interview (150 marks).

The final merit list is prepared based on the combined marks of the Written Exam (Paper 1 + Paper 2) and the Interview.
