UPESSC UP PRT Assistant Teacher Exam Pattern 2026

Selection for both posts is made from a merit list of a single written examination:

ParticularsDetails
Exam modeOffline, OMR answer sheet
Total questions120 objective multiple choice questions
Total marks360 marks
Duration2 hours (120 minutes)
Options per question4 (only one most appropriate answer)
Marks for correct answer+3
Negative marking–1 for wrong or more than one marked answer
Medium of question paperHindi and English
NormalisationApplicable if the exam is held in more than one shift
Tie-breaker rule: If two or more candidates score the same marks, the higher percentage in graduation is considered first; if that is also equal, the percentage in the training qualification is considered; if all three are equal, the older candidate is placed higher in the merit list.

If the examination is conducted in a single shift, raw marks obtained by candidates are used for selection. If the number of applications is very large and the exam is held in multiple shifts, normalisation is applied as per the Commission's prescribed procedure and only normalised scores are used for selection.

OMR Sheet & Exam Day Rules

  • Carry only a black ball point pen. Blue pens, fountain pens, gel pens, sketch pens, HB pencils and whitener are strictly prohibited.
  • Darken only one circle per question completely – marking more than one circle means no evaluation and no marks for that question.
  • Never use eraser, nails, blade or whitener on the OMR sheet; any such damage makes the sheet invalid and it will not be evaluated.
  • Do not put dots, ink marks or any other symbol anywhere on the circles.
  • Download the sample OMR format from the Commission's website and practise filling it before the exam.
  • Appear only at the allotted examination centre – appearing at any other centre means the answer sheet is not evaluated and candidature is cancelled.
  • Divyang candidates who need a scribe must arrange one themselves and register the scribe's full details at the Commission's office at least one week before the exam; 20 minutes extra time per hour is granted.
  • No travelling allowance is payable for appearing in the examination.
  • Any form of unfair means, indiscipline or misconduct leads to cancellation of candidature and possible debarment from future examinations.

UP PRT Assistant Teacher Preparation Strategy 2026

  • Work backwards from 03 December 2026: Split the remaining weeks into a syllabus-completion phase, a revision phase and a final mock-test phase of at least three weeks.
  • Respect the –1 penalty: With +3 for a correct answer and –1 for a wrong one, three wrong answers wipe out one correct answer. Attempt a question only after eliminating at least two options.
  • Manage 120 questions in 120 minutes: Exactly one minute per question, including OMR filling time. Train with full-length timed mocks, not untimed practice.
  • Master Child Development & Pedagogy: It is the most scoring and most predictable section for any primary teacher exam – revise NEP 2020, RTE Act and learning theories thoroughly.
  • Do not skip UP-specific GK: Uttar Pradesh history, geography, culture, education schemes and state current affairs regularly appear in state teacher recruitment papers.
  • Keep your graduation percentage in mind: Since ties are broken by graduation percentage, every extra mark in the written exam matters even more for border-line candidates.
  • Practise OMR filling: Download the official OMR format, and simulate bubble filling during at least five mocks so you never lose marks to mechanical errors.
  • Analyse every mock: Log your mistakes topic-wise, clear them with subject-wise tests, then re-attempt a fresh full-length set.
