What is NDA & NA?

The National Defence Academy (NDA) and Naval Academy (NA) Examination is conducted by UPSC twice a year for admission to the Army, Navy, and Air Force wings of the NDA and Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC). NDA & NA is the gateway for 12th pass candidates to become commissioned officers in the Indian Armed Forces.

NDA & NA 2025 Eligibility Criteria

• Nationality: Must be a citizen of India, or subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962.
• Age Limit (as on 1st July 2025): 16.5 to 19.5 years (born between 2nd July 2006 and 1st July 2009).
• Gender: Both male and female candidates are eligible.
• Marital Status: Unmarried candidates only.
• Physical Standards: Must meet prescribed physical and medical standards for admission (see official notification for details).

Educational Qualification for NDA & NA 2025

• For Army Wing of NDA: 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent from a recognized board.
• For Air Force and Naval Wings of NDA & NA: 12th Class pass with Physics and Mathematics from a recognized board.
• Appearing Candidates: Those appearing in the 12th class can also apply.

How to Apply for NDA & NA 2025

1. Go to the official UPSC website: upsconline.nic.in
2. Register and fill in the NDA & NA application form with personal, educational, and contact details.
3. Upload scanned copies of your photograph and signature.
4. Pay the examination fee online or by cash at SBI branches.
5. Review the application and submit. Download and print the confirmation page for future reference.

Examination Fee

• General/OBC: ₹100/-
• SC/ST/Female Candidates/Sons of JCOs/NCOs/ORs: Exempted from fee payment.
• Fee can be paid online using net banking, credit/debit card, or in cash at any SBI branch.

NDA & NA 2025 Exam Pattern & Syllabus

• Written Exam:
  • Mathematics: 120 questions, 300 marks (2.5 hours)
  • General Ability Test (GAT): 150 questions, 600 marks (2.5 hours)
• GAT Sections: English, General Knowledge (Physics, Chemistry, General Science, History, Geography, Current Events)
• SSB Interview: 900 marks (for candidates qualifying the written exam)
• Marking Scheme: Negative marking for wrong answers (1/3rd for each incorrect response).
• Syllabus Highlights:
